Blast Premier 2022 season has begun with spring groups to decide the qualifying teams for spring finals. Spring groups start with the group A games where 4 teams - G2, NiP, BIG and Complexity went head to head to decide their seeding in playoffs.
After the first day of action, group A seeds are finalised. G2 secured first seed and is placed in upper finals of first bracket, NiP with second seed is now in semi-finals of second bracket. BIG placed third in group stages are in quarterfinals of third bracket whereas Complexity were placed last in group A and are now in quarterfinals of first bracket.
Day two of spring groups will feature the group B action. Navi, mibr, Astralis and OG will play against each other, Navi will face mibr in first semi-final whereas Astralis and OG will go head to head in second semi-final. The group B action will start at 15:00 CET on Saturday Jan 29.
Blast Premier spring groups new format explained-
This year Blast launches a new format for their group events. All 4 teams from each group will move onto play ins but the group stage will decide that where they will be put in the bracket. The winner of each group will be placed directly in upper bracket finals, second place team will be placed in semi- finals whereas 3rd and 4th place teams will be placed in quarterfinals.
A total of three separate brackets will be formed, quarterfinals will be elimination games while the semi-finals and upper final will be double elimination. Three winners of upper final and three winners of lower final will move onto Blast premier Spring Finals, whereas the remaining six teams will fight in spring showdown for last 2 spots in spring finals.
G2 esports shines in new roster debut in Blast Premier spring groups 2022-
Blast Premier spring groups is the first tier 1 event of 2022 season, other than few teams almost every team were entering this event with a new look roster. G2 was also on of those teams, they signed Aleksib, moNSEY and XTQZZZ (coach) in this off season to replace Nexa and Amanek and this was their debut event. Both these 2 new signings impressed everyone and helped G2 esports to win Group A and move on to upper finals.
In opening series they defeat complexity 16-12 and then defeat NiP 16-6 in semi-finals. In finals they had a rematch against NiP, but this team the score line was looking opposite as NiP were leading with a score line of 15-8. G2 managed to complete an insane comeback and tied the map at 15-15 to force overtime where they won the map 22-19 after two overtimes and secured first seed from group A.
